What is “PFC”?

PFC is the abbreviation for “Power Factor Correction”.

As well as the power is used with equipment that known as real power, and draw power is not directly used that known as reactive power. The combination of two is known as apparent power. Power factor is the relationship between real and apparent power (KVA). If the power factor falls below a predetermined figure at your site, then the electricity company will add reactive power charges to your bill.

With power factor, you can measure how efficiently you are consuming electricity. Electronic power supply device, the computer system used typically use 110V/220V AC, but due to the actor of its nonlinear rectifier, the input voltage instability will cause damage to electrical equipment, reduce energy efficiency.

PFC energy has environment awareness, it is to improve power conversion efficiency, reduce the public power supply network and failure of equipment. Therefore, the investment for power factor correction is useful. Generally, the power electronic equipment without PFC function is no more than 0.7, and power factor can be up to 0.99 after adding power factor correction.

Conclusion

Power Factor Correction plays the role of making sure that there is a smooth power supply, and in turn elevates the power quality.
